You need to be at least 13, with guardian consent where the law requires it.

We only get a limited licence to run the service.
Harassment, hate, spam, fraud and doxxing are prohibited.
Content can be removed and accounts suspended for breaking the terms.
Contact us if you want your account permanently deleted.
1. Acceptance of the terms
These terms of use ("the Terms") form a binding agreement between you ("the User", "you") and the operator of ChatGuard ("we", "us", "ChatGuard").
By registering an account, signing in, installing ChatGuard as a web app (PWA) or otherwise using the service, you accept the Terms and our privacy policy. If you don't accept the Terms you may not use the service.
If you use ChatGuard on behalf of an organization (e.g. a school, association or employer), you confirm that you're authorized to bind the organization, or that your use complies with the organization's internal rules.
2. About the service and data storage
ChatGuard is a communication platform for direct messages, group chats, text and voice channels, media sharing, voice messages, voice calls, profiles, friend requests, notifications, PWA installation, reporting, updates and ChatGuard AI.
Chat, history and media
Messages, replies, reactions, read receipts, conversation settings, attachments and associated metadata may be saved so the service can show history, search, file tabs, moderation evidence, unread counters and other chat features. You're responsible for not using ChatGuard as the only archive or backup for important information.
Temporary features
Snaps and similar features may be time- or view-limited. The limitation applies within ChatGuard's feature, but recipients can still save content outside our control, for example by screenshot or recording. Voice calls are not recorded by ChatGuard, but call metadata and system events may be processed for operation, troubleshooting and security.
ChatGuard AI
ChatGuard AI is a text assistant in a separate AI conversation. It can help with general questions, text, code, planning, troubleshooting and ChatGuard-related tips where the feature is enabled. AI use may be subject to daily quotas, role-based access, operating policy, safe account context and voluntary AI memory. Never share passwords, tokens, ID numbers, card details, private keys or other secrets with the AI chat.
Availability
We strive for high availability but don't guarantee that the service is error-free, uninterrupted or available at all times. Maintenance, security updates, technical disruptions or force majeure may cause temporary outages.
Changes to the service
We reserve the right to add, change, limit or remove features at any time, including free features and VIP features, without prior notice when reasonable. Significant changes affecting paid services should, as far as possible, be communicated in advance.
Beta and experimental features
Some features may be marked as beta or experimental. They're provided "as is" and may be changed or discontinued without liability on our part.
3. Eligibility and age
You must be at least 13 years to create an account and use ChatGuard. If you're under 18 you must have a guardian's permission where required by applicable law.
You may not use the service if you:
- have previously been permanently suspended from ChatGuard and not explicitly readmitted;
- are prohibited by law from using similar services;
- uses the service to circumvent an earlier suspension or block.
We may request age verification or other identification if we have reasonable grounds to suspect that the Terms or the law aren't being followed.
4. Accounts and security
Registration
When registering you must provide correct and current information (e.g. username, email address, display name). You may not impersonate someone else or mislead other users about your identity.
Sign-in and password
You're responsible for keeping your sign-in details confidential. Don't share your account with others. You're responsible for all activity through your account unless you've promptly notified us of unauthorized access.
Recovery
Password reset is done via a time-limited link sent to the account's email address. You're responsible for keeping your email address up to date and protected.
One account per person
You may normally only have one active user account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent suspension, abuse or moderation is prohibited.
Inactivity
We may close or archive accounts that have been inactive for a long time, after a warning where appropriate.
5. User content
"User content" means all content you send, upload or publish via the service — including chat messages, attachments, snaps, voice messages, profile information, profile comments, group information, playlists and AI questions.
Chat vs. stored content
Chat content and metadata may be stored to show conversation history, attachments, replies, reactions, read receipts, search and moderation features — see section 2. Other stored data includes, for example, your profile, account settings, group metadata, notification settings, uploaded media and content you explicitly publish on your profile page.
Your responsibility
You're solely responsible for your User Content and for having all the rights needed to share it. You guarantee that the content doesn't violate the Terms, the law, third-party rights or group-specific rules.
License to ChatGuard
You retain ownership of your User Content. By using the service you grant ChatGuard a limited license to store, display, forward, process, back up and technically handle the content to the extent required to operate, secure and improve the service.
The license ends when the content is deleted from our systems, except for backups, logs, reports or legal obligations where continued limited processing is necessary.
6. Acceptable use
You agree to use ChatGuard lawfully, respectfully and in accordance with these Terms. The following is expressly prohibited (the list is not exhaustive):
- harassment, threats, hate propaganda, discrimination or bullying;
- sexually exploitative material, including content that sexualizes minors;
- spreading malware, phishing, fraud or other harmful activity;
- spam, unsolicited mass mailings or automated data collection (scraping) without permission;
- publishing personal data about others without legal grounds or consent (doxxing);
- sharing highly sensitive information, secrets or authentication details in chat, attachments or the AI chat;
- infringement of intellectual property rights, including copyright and trademarks;
- attempts to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems or data;
- manipulation of the service, including exploiting bugs with malicious intent;
- selling or transferring accounts without our written approval;
- use that violates export controls, sanctions or anti-money-laundering legislation.
Reporting
Users are encouraged to report content or behavior that violates the Terms via the service's report function. Reports may contain information about users, messages, attachments, profile content or other context needed to assess the case. We may, but are not obliged to, review all reports.
7. Groups, roles and moderation
Platform roles
ChatGuard may have different user roles (e.g. user, VIP, moderator, administrator) with different permissions. Roles are assigned according to our internal rules and can be revoked.
Group moderation
Group owners and group roles can set rules, approve members, block users, manage text and voice channels, control channel permissions and restrict access within their groups. Removal or moderation can affect visibility in the service, stored content, membership and access, but can't control copies that others have already saved outside ChatGuard.
Actions we may take
We reserve the right, with or without prior warning, to:
- restrict, restore or remove stored content (e.g. profile, messages, attachments, snaps, group metadata or profile comments);
- issue warnings;
- temporarily or permanently suspend accounts;
- restrict features (e.g. chat, groups, uploads, AI, voice, music or notifications);
- review reports, relevant content and metadata and take action based on the information;
- disclose information to law enforcement authorities when required by law.
Moderation takes place through user reports, role and permission systems, technical safeguards and administrator tools. We try to be proportionate, but security and compliance with the Terms may require quick action.
8. VIP and add-on services
Some features may require VIP status, role permission, special access or that the server has the feature enabled. This may apply to, for example, snaps, appearance options, creating groups, media uploads, storage space, AI quotas or other extended features. Terms for such services may supplement these Terms.
VIP gives access to the features stated in the service at any given time. We reserve the right to change VIP perks and quotas. Any payments, refunds and cancellation are governed by separate information shown at purchase or on the VIP page.
Misuse of VIP features or circumventing paywalls may lead to revocation of VIP without a refund.
9. Intellectual property
ChatGuard, including but not limited to the brand, logo, design, program code, databases and documentation, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property law.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell or create derivatives of the service or its parts without written permission, beyond what is expressly permitted by law or these Terms.
Feedback and suggestions you give us may be used freely by ChatGuard without any obligation to compensate you.
10. Third parties and external links
The service may contain links to external websites or integrate third-party services, for example hosting, email delivery, browser push notification services, AI providers or payment/operating services where used. We're not responsible for the content, privacy or security of third parties outside our control.
Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and policies.
11. Termination and closure
Your termination
You can stop using the service at any time. Contact us if you want your account deleted permanently. Some data may be retained according to our privacy policy and legal requirements.
Our termination
We may suspend or close your account immediately if you breach the Terms, if we must comply with legal requirements, or if continued provision would pose a risk to the service or other users.
Effect on closure
On closure, your right to use the service ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive closure (e.g. limitation of liability, intellectual property, indemnification) continue to apply.
12. Limitation of liability and indemnification
No warranty
ChatGuard is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
Limitation of damages
We're not liable for indirect damage, consequential damage, lost profit, data loss or damage caused by content from other users, third parties or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
Our total liability to you for claims arising out of or in connection with the service is, to the extent permitted by law, limited to the higher of (a) the amount you may have paid us in the last twelve months, or (b) a nominal amount if no payments have been made.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify ChatGuard and its staff against claims, damages and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your User Content, your breach of the Terms or your violation of the law.
Force majeure
We're not responsible for delays or failure to fulfil obligations due to events beyond our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, war, strikes, government decisions, internet disruptions or serious security incidents.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that can't be limited under mandatory Swedish or EU law, e.g. in cases of intent or gross negligence.
13. Changes to the terms
We may update these Terms. For significant changes we inform you via the service, email or another appropriate method. The date of the latest version is shown at the top of the page.
Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't accept the changes you should stop using the service and may request deletion of your account.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms shall be interpreted and applied in accordance with Swedish law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Disputes shall primarily be resolved through negotiation. If the parties don't agree, the dispute may be tried by a general court in Sweden, with a Swedish court as the first instance unless mandatory consumer legislation gives you the right to choose another forum.
If you're a consumer in the EU you can also turn to the European Commission's online dispute resolution (ODR) platform.
